We have looked back at some of the models that helped define Motobécane’s golden era in the 1970s.

Inspired by Motobécane’s collections from 1973–1976, we are reviving a selection of the most successful models from the period, bringing their distinctive character into a new generation of bicycles. Classic lines, steel frames and authentic details create a strong connection to the past, while modern components and functionality make them ready for today’s riders.

The original photographs and catalogues tell the story of a remarkable chapter in Motobécane’s history. Now, that story is being brought back to life – with respect for the originals and a passion for carrying French cycling heritage forward.

From 1970s classics to new adventures.

Motobécane is a legendary French bicycle brand with more than 100 years of history. The story began in 1923 in Pantin, near Paris, where Charles Benoît and Abel Bardin founded Motobécane with the ambition of creating two-wheeled vehicles defined by quality, innovation and craftsmanship.

Over the decades, Motobécane grew to become an important part of French cycling and mobility culture. Its bicycles became known for their quality, elegant design and technical innovation, with the brand making a particularly strong impact on the cycling world during the 1960s and 1970s.

Throughout the 20th century, Motobécane also became one of France’s leading names in two-wheeled mobility. In 1949, the famous Mobylette was introduced, and millions of them would eventually take to the roads.

Motobécane became part of everyday life for generations of French people – whether they travelled by bicycle or on motorised two wheels.

In the 1980s, a new chapter in the company’s history began, and Motobécane eventually evolved into MBK. But the heritage, the bicycles and the iconic Motobécane name were never forgotten.

A Legendary Name Returns

Today, Motobécane is back on the cycling scene.

With deep respect for its French heritage, the brand has been revived with bicycles inspired by Motobécane’s rich history, combining its distinctive character with modern components, functionality and Danish cycling know-how.

The Concept Team Champion marked the beginning of this new chapter. Inspired by Motobécane’s proud racing heritage, the model combines classic lines and steel with modern bicycle technology.

And the comeback continues.

Drawing inspiration from Motobécane’s successful models and catalogues from 1973–1976, ideas, designs and model concepts from the past are now returning in a new interpretation. The aim is not simply to recreate the past, but to preserve its character and carry it forward in bicycles made for today’s riders.

Today, Motobécane is about building on more than 100 years of cycling history.

The classic lines, steel frames, distinctive details and French cycling culture remain at the heart of the brand’s identity. But these bicycles are made to be ridden today – on gravel roads, through city streets, on long-distance adventures or on a child’s very first ride.
